This fall I am extremely excited to be offering flounder trips with none other than captain Mike Fowler of Bad Dog Sportfishing!
Captain Mike is an authority on Cape Cod winter flounder fishing. He's also been a featured speaker at numerous My Fishing Cape Cod events where he's shared invaluable winter flounder fishing advice and tips.
People travel from near and far to go flounder fishing with captain Mike. In fact, his springtime Cape Cod Bay flounder fishing trips are often fully booked months in advance.
However, what most people don't realize is there's a fall flounder bite in Cape Cod Bay too. The fishing is not as "lights out" as it is during the spring, but the bite is still pretty darn good all October.
Flounder lay along the bottom and eat small fish, worms, clams, and mussels. During these trips you'll be drift fishing along the bottom using bait. Mike can supply rods and reels but you're free to bring you own if you prefer.
Catching winter flounder is a lot of fun, but the real draw of these fish is for eating. Without a doubt, flounder are one of Cape Cod's most delicious and best eating fish!
As mentioned above, the best flounder fishing of the year happens during the spring, but October is a close second. The nice thing is that in the event the flounder aren't cooperating, captain Mike's backup plan is tautog!
Tautog are a hard fighting and fun fish to catch. Fortunately for us captain Mike knows many of the spots in Cape Cod Bay where the tog like to hideout. Tautog are also a wonderful eating fish.
Mike's boat The Bad Dog, is a 31ft BHM. It's a down-east style Maine designed hull that provides an exceptionally comfortable ride and safety in all weather conditions.
The Bad Dog is equipped with the most recent and up-to-date Garmin electronics. The boat is powered by a 350hp Caterpillar diesel motor paired with 300 gallons of fuel. It has a dry wheelhouse, a toilet, and a large back deck with plenty of room for fishing.
