The Rocket has become a staple lure at the Cape Cod Canal. Over the past several years it's popularity with canal has exploded, and anglers are also now using them from the Cape's beaches whenever a super long cast is required.

Rockets are made with hard ABS plastics, and feature a walk the dog action when jerked along. They come in 5 different colors including white, mackerel, yellow mackerel, ghost and sunrise.

The lure has a size 3/0 extended belly treble hook with a swivel so big fish can’t twist it off, especially in fast current. The tail hook is a size 6/0 Mustad, which is reversed, to help reduce snags on the bottom. The bucktail is loaded with illuminates for extra flash.

This kit contains two of each version of the Long Cast Rocket:

1.4oz floating (2)
3.5oz sinking (2)
4.8oz sinking (2)
5.8oz sinking (2)

The long-cast floating Rocket weighs 1.4oz, and as the name suggests, it floats. The sinking Rockets weigh 3.5, 4.8 and 5.8 ounces and can be easily cast to the middle of the Cape Cod Canal, with some anglers casting them three quarters of the way across.

The different between the 4.8oz and the 5.8oz is sink rate, especially in moving tides. The major success of the Rocket is due to its ability to be jigged along the bottom where the big bass are swimming.

The most effective way to fish the Rocket at the canal or in moving water is to cast it up-current at approximately 2 o’clock. Take slack and wait for it to hit bottom. Jig the Rocket and then let it settle, then jig again. As the line straightens out towards the end of the retrieve, open your bail and let it fall to the bottom one last time. Many fish are taken with this technique.

The Rocket is made with one piece of lead which keeps it sinking tail first without rolling, which can be an issue with loaded Cotton Cordells.
